What's new

New features and fixes in e-NABLE Web Central. You're using version 2.3.0.

What's new in e-NABLE Web Central 2

e-NABLE Web Central 2 is a complete rebuild of the original site, designed around one goal: getting people their devices faster, with far less back-and-forth.

No more approvals

In the original site, the person requesting a device had to approve every step: volunteer offers, device recommendations, and more. Requests often stalled when they didn't. Now a request simply moves from open → matched → delivered → complete, and families never have to approve anything.

Matching

  • Automatic invitations. As soon as a request comes in, the best-placed volunteers are emailed. Volunteers who can meet in person and live within their own travel distance come first, then the nearest volunteers who can ship, favoring those who speak the family's language or have made the requested design.
  • The first volunteer to say yes takes the request. If no one does, the next-nearest volunteers are invited every few days. After a week, a coordinator steps in, and nearby e-NABLE chapters are suggested.
  • One volunteer per request instead of separate Expert, Fabricator, and Assembler roles.
  • No badges. Each request shows exactly what the volunteer will do, the skills and equipment needed, and the typical time, so volunteers can decide for themselves whether they're confident to take it on.

For families

  • One simple request form with an illustrated guide to sizing photos. It suggests a type of device from plain-language answers, and speaks to you directly ("you", "your child", or "they").
  • Progress updates and messages from your volunteer, with an email whenever there's news.
  • An I need help button to reach a coordinator at any time, and an easy way to ask for an adjustment.
  • Follow-up requests for repairs and resizes as children grow, with your previous volunteer asked first.

For volunteers

  • A dashboard with your invitations, your active requests, and open requests nearby.
  • One-click progress updates (sizing, printing, assembling, fitting), and an easy way to hand a request back if life gets in the way.
  • Log requests you're already helping with, for example from a chapter event, so every device counts.

For coordinators

  • One daily summary email of anything that needs a human.
  • A dashboard with requests that need attention, volunteer approvals, the best-matched volunteers for each request with one-click invitations, and impact statistics.
  • Gentle automatic reminders for quiet volunteers and unconfirmed deliveries, so problems rarely need chasing.

Available worldwide

  • The whole site and every email are available in 14 languages: English, 简体中文, हिन्दी, Español, العربية, Français, বাংলা, Português, Русский, اردو, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, עברית, and Italiano, with right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Urdu, and Hebrew.
  • Everyone uses the site, and gets emails, in the language they choose.

Devices

  • A visual "Which design is right?" guide on the Devices page.
  • Photos of every design, plus hands-on volunteer notes: pros, cons, and assembly tips.

Privacy and safety

  • Before a match, volunteers see only the recipient's first name and age, city, and photos. Contact details are shared only after a match.
  • Photos are private, and hidden location data is removed when they're uploaded.
  • New volunteers are approved by a coordinator, and you can delete your account at any time.

Built to last

  • Simpler, far less expensive hosting replaces the original Windows and SQL Server setup.
  • Built-in Help and What's new pages, and a careful release process that keeps every language up to date.

Version 2.1.0

2026-10-20

Added

  • 14 languages. e-NABLE Web Central is now available in English, 简体中文, हिन्दी, Español, العربية, Français, বাংলা, Português, Русский, اردو, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, עברית, and Italiano. Choose your language from the 🌐 menu at the top of any page, when you sign up, or on your account page. Arabic, Urdu, and Hebrew are shown right-to-left.
  • Emails in your language. Every email we send you is written in the language you chose, no matter who triggered it.
  • Language-aware matching. When choosing which volunteers to invite, we now favor those who speak the family's language. Request pages show each family's language so volunteers know how to get in touch.
  • "Which design is right?" guide on the Devices page explains, with pictures and simple checklists, which kind of device suits which limb difference, plus where to look for above-elbow options.
  • Volunteer notes for 12 popular designs: pros, cons, and assembly tips from hands-on reviews by e-NABLE volunteers.
  • Photos for 11 more designs on the Devices page.
  • The "devices delivered" count on the home page now includes devices delivered through the original e-NABLE Web Central since 2017.

Changed

  • The request form now speaks to you directly: if the device is for you, it asks "What would you like to be able to do?"; if it's for your child, "What would your child like to be able to do?", and so on.
  • How it works: added a reminder that volunteers should only take on as much as they can complete in a timely way.

Version 2.0.0

2026-10-20

e-NABLE Web Central 2.0 is a complete rebuild, designed to get people their devices faster with far less back-and-forth.

Added

  • One simple request form. Families describe the need in plain language, add sizing photos (with a picture guide), and get an account in the same step. We suggest a type of device from their answers.
  • Automatic matching with nearby volunteers. As soon as a request comes in, the closest volunteers who make that kind of device are personally invited by email. Volunteers who can meet in person come first; otherwise the nearest volunteer who can ship. If no one responds, the next-nearest volunteers are invited every few days.
  • First volunteer to say yes gets it. No approvals are needed from the family at any point.
  • Volunteers decide for themselves. Every request shows what the volunteer will need to do, the skills and equipment needed, and typical time, so volunteers can judge whether they're confident to take it on.
  • Progress updates (sizing, printing, assembling, fitting) with photos, and simple messaging between the family and volunteer, with email notifications.
  • "I need help" button for families, and a one-click way for volunteers to hand a request back if they can't continue.
  • Gentle automatic reminders for quiet volunteers, families who haven't confirmed delivery, and a daily summary for coordinators of anything that needs a human.
  • Coordinator dashboard with requests needing attention, volunteer approvals, best-matched volunteers for each request, and impact statistics.
  • Volunteers can log requests they're already helping with (e.g. from a chapter event) so every device counts.
  • Repairs and resizes: families can request a follow-up, and their previous volunteer is asked first.
  • e-NABLE chapters: nearby chapters (from the e-NABLE chapters map) are suggested when no individual volunteer is available.
  • Device catalog based on the e-NABLE Hub, editable by coordinators.
  • Help & documentation and this What's new page inside the app.
  • Account deletion, and a privacy page explaining who sees what.

Changed

  • Volunteer roles (Expert, Fabricator, Assembler) are replaced by a single volunteer who sees the request through, as recommended by the 2019 usability review.
  • Digital badges (Badgr/Credly) are no longer required or used.
  • Hosting moved from Windows/IIS/SQL Server to a single low-cost web service with a PostgreSQL database.

Removed

  • Step-by-step approvals by the requester (volunteer offers, device recommendations).
  • Device inventory, events, and the Kumu atlas integration from version 1.

Security

  • Photos are stored privately, served only to people involved in the request, and have hidden location data (GPS) removed.
  • Contact details are shared only between the family and their matched volunteer (and coordinators).
  • New volunteers are reviewed by a coordinator before they can see requests.
